Bacon is considered to be one of the most delicious foods in Western culture. There are numerous websites dedicated to this topic. There are even fan clubs. Surprisingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (these are not really made out of Bacon but are rather designed to seem as if they have been – do an online query if you do not trust my word).

This, perhaps surprising popularity, makes us intrigued. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?

Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful place to look for resources for such information. A quick search shows that Bacon is simply cured meat that is made from certain parts of a pig. There are numerous types of bacon which come from different sections of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Additionally, there are countless ways of making it: it can be smoked, boiled, fried, baked, grilled, used as a additive in a salad and in numerous other manners. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is a thing we can do ourselves.

As Bacon is prepared from pigs (although in certain countries, non-pork based bacon-like foods are also referred to as bacon, which is in my honest opinion plainly does not count), is actually forbidden for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism treats pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ animals and as such, all meats made from their flesh are forbidden.

I need to finish, my Broccoli Bacon Chicken and Chilled Cauliflower Salad is waiting for me. I suggest you leave now and buy some. You know you want to.
